indeed! well, said.
i guess there's the pros n cons...i too agree on what Amora7 has to say abt "M’sians might think twice about attending the show to watch some unknown singer".
Media plays a huge part in all these. If we're not getting the support locally what makes us think that foreign would? There's alot that could have been done to bring our artists to light but all the media in SG does is all talk. They KNOW the need to publicised or constant write up of our artists but how often do they do that? Once in a blue moon???
Manja is a great platform but once a mth???
I really hope that more could be done for our artists here in SG.
Let the neighbours hear our mega loud cheer for our artists here n entice them to take notice of the ripples of waves we've created here to promote, support and hype our talented pool of artists instead of us constantly 'trying our luck' or begging them to take notice. They themselves have different mediums and various reality shows to busied their industry. We SGians should strengthen our foundation and boots our pool of artists before others take notice. It's sad to read, I quote "i've voiced out my wishes on the media interviews about my interest for acting, hosting and appearing on prestigious award shows like APM, etc but unfortunately everyone else got it before me. I wonder if the world could hear me out, and if they ever cared". There you go an excellent singer but brushed aside by media? And "listen to the privileges of my friends, of another target audience, i'm extremely envious and i wish i cud have taken up a second language"....Or is it just......... You get the idea. But oh well, all said n done.....we'll all just be the usual armchair critic...Tengokla, what's next??

And for that to happen, we need some favourable piece of journalism from the foreign press...

Yes it is a fact that the three you mentioned are our top 3 popular artistes, which makes perfect sense to have them carrying our flag on that night. But to say they are being baits for Singaporeans to travel up only shows how confident they are of pulling in the Msian crowd. I still remember the 2003 event at Bukit Jalil was made up of mostly Singaporeans and the arena was only 1/2 - 2/3 full.

Every artiste who has a crack at the big time over there needs that rub of green, no matter how small they are. Taufik as far as I can remember had a few singles playing on Msian radio before Seribu Tahun came along. While those singles boomed over here, they kinda withered over there. Sesuatu Janji which is a personal fave of mine had a lot of promise but sadly didn't quite catch on as I had expected it to be. But let's hope that with this album and its nominations in APM, people there will sit up and notice. Cos I really want our Singapore artistes to invade Msia like those Indon bands, without having to give up their citizenship. We've lost too many local acts to the industry, in the name of citizenship, there already....

I doubt the 2 idols want to be known as idols in M'sia. They are just singers wanting to spread their wings. The reason Imran has made it in M'sia is due to the hit song Seribu Tahun. Without that, I bet it would have been difficult for him too. Let's face it, Taufik, Hady and Aliff Aziz are the 3 most popular singers here. To get S'poreans to travel all the way to M'sia they need these 3 as baits. Also M'sians might think twice about attending the show to watch some unknown singer.
By the way I think it is good that APM 2008 will be held in KL. Hopefully M'sians will develop a sense of belonging towards the award show now that it will be held there.

I dunno what you’re getting at actually if you think I have an axe to grind with Taufik and Hady. Honestly speaking, I don’t have any ill feelings towards the two heroes you’re talking about. My point above is we have a big pool of talent which we can tap upon. Give them more exposure cos our music industry does not revolve around the Idols. Hope you see things in the bigger picture.

Plus I'm saying that for all the hard work they're putting in across the Causeway, the Msians only regard Jaclyn as the only Idol they would rather worship / support. Just look at how biased Paul Moss was during the Asian Idol finals. His comments more or less reflect the sentiments they have towards our boys. Which is sad, given how talented they are...

Whatever ill feelings you have against the two idols, i can only say your action as "bagaikan tepuk air didulang, percik dimuka sendiri".
