No Reviews…

I looked at my blog statistics this morning and noticed a surge in readership yesterday. I believe this is relatively due to what most of you have come to expect just a few hours after every episode of Anugerah Band ends, which is my reviews. Like I’ve stated in my entry on Sunday, I will not be doing any reviews for this week as I was at work when the show was being televised. So I have to apologise for disappointing you guys there.

My thoughts on the results??? Those in the Wildcard round do not deserved to be in there and yes that includes Virus Cinta. Just look at the pedigree they have and compare it with those who were a shoo-in into the semi-finals. I will not say which groups already in the semi-finals I do not fancy, but I believe one or two of them deserves to be in the Wildcard round instead. But such is the “strength” of these groups when you subject this kind of competition to the fans, who sometimes vote out of blind loyalty, which in turn undermines the quality that the competition is crying out for.

For the record, those who have entered the semi-final rounds are Cucu Datok Merah, Fatskunks, Rancour and Trabo. While those in the Wildcard round are X-Tech, Knightwings, Virus Cinta and Putra.

i watch anugerah band even tho i dun know what was said on the show most of the time (saya not a malay). but i got hooked cos of the many different music genres and some very fascinating display of performers’ talents with their instruments/vocals/charisma in the show. and i’ve come to appreciate your reviews very much cos finally, they are comments in a language i can understand and what’s more, with same sentiments felt and identified for the performers! so as long as you could get your hands (and time) at them, i would really be much thankful if you could keep your reviews for the show going… terima kasih in advance yah?! hehe…

somehow i feel the way the bands are grouped is part of a strategy to get higher viewers’ ratings for the show (who will want to watch wildcard – or any rounds of the show if there aren’t some bands who are “not supposed to be there” but “there”?). this is quite sad, somehow especially for virus cinta whom i think is a dark horse, but somhow always seem to be “sabo” in some way or other by the game rules of the show… in any way, i hope all the bands who are featured in the show enjoy this music journey, for i believe the platform had been a good opportunity for them to play alongside some awesome musicians. the rich experience will definitely give them great sources of inspiration for the music they are making in future!

one last point to make which is a solely personal, saya cinta x-tech!!! their music is power and infectious; they win my heart totally!i sure hope they can move into the finals – without further slips and surprises from the show organiser!

  2. Thank you for leaving your two cents worth “Sotong”. Besides the fact that I am more at ease conversing in English in my blog, even though I am equally at home with Malay, I just feel that there are non-Malays out there who would be interested in reading up stuff about us (our culture / heritage / our misgivings / our music industry etc) and with that, I take on the liberty to bridge this gap between us. At least I know my outreach is not futile when I read your comments :)

You’ve got a point about ratings but having all four who really deserve to be in the semi-finals outright does not seem at all wise for me if they really make it into some sort of strategy. Like you, I like X-Tech too and I feel they will be worthy winners. In fact if you ask me who I would crown as champions now, my vote goes out to them for being polished and consistent all these while…

thanks, i’m sure enjoying reading your stuff.
it’ll be interesting for me to know more about your culture.
in fact, i’m now picking up simple malay words here there with my colleague and saya now know how to count from “kosong to sepuluh” in malay, wahaha…

actually i do have some misgivings about the show which i’m not sure if i should air it out here… last thing i want is your blogsite being kena “sue” by mediacorp… but well, it’s showbiz and politics/games spice the ratings up…

u are right about the four bands in the wildcard, and i would be just as sorry for any that would go out. but i feel it’s still too early to crown a champion yet, for there are still a few more shows to go and consistency is often the most inconsistent thing to maintain (that’s why disappointment exists in life)… but kudos to x-tech for their showmanship so far! i sure hope they keep up their rawking performance. gd luck to them and i’m keeping my fingers crossed for them!

i read that there’ll be awards for best vocalist, best musician and he/she doesn’t have to be in the winning band. best part – winners of these awards are solely picked by judges (not votes where talents are often blinded by “cinta”!), so may all deserving performers walk away from this show well recognised and remembered…

  4. My only hope is that their minutes of fame will not be the end once the competition ends… That seems to be happening to a lot of these talented individuals / groups whenever they come to the end of the road. I’m sure previous winners or supporters of previous winners can agree with me on this painful fact…
