Anugerah Planet Muzik 2009 List of Nominations…

Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) is back again for a 9th edition this year!!! Judging by what I’ve heard so far, this year seems to be a first in quite a few aspects. For one, it is the first time in its 9-year history that the event will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is scheduled to be held at the Plenary Hall, Jakarta Convention Centre on 18th July 2009 at 9pm (8pm Indonesian time). The show will be telecast live on Mediacorp Suria for the benefit of Singaporean viewers, on GlobalTV for Indonesian viewers and Astro (exact channel yet to be confirmed) for Malaysian viewers. This morning, a press conference was held simultaneously at 11am at Mediacorp Broadcast Centre and in Kuala Lumpur at Delicious Restaurant, Dua Residency, to announce the nominees of the fourteen categories up for grabs this year. If I’m not wrong, this was the first time the APM press conference was held in the morning as opposed to 3pm in previous years.

Also, for the first time, a new category Anugerah Kolaborasi Terbaik Dalam Lagu (Best Collaboration In A Song Award) was introduced since the regional music industry is now filled with a lot of collaborative efforts amongst fellow musicians / vocalists in a song, as opposed to calling it a “duet”. Another thing I observed and worth noting is that the categories for new artistes have been given a slight tweak to their header eg. Artis Lelaki Baru Terbaik (Best New Male Artiste) has now been replaced with Persembahan Vokal Terbaik Dalam Lagu Untuk Artis Baru Lelaki (Best Vocal Performance In A Song By A New Male Artiste). That’s quite a mouthful isn’t it??? Hahahah… The following list below is by no means the final one since I typed it out as they were being announced on air. I might have also gotten some of the information wrong in my haste. Most definitely I must have missed out on a few and I will update the necessary in due time when I get my hands on the actual list. Looking at the nominations, it seems that the decision to do it in Jakarta for the first time in its history seemed like the most logical choice as this year the Indonesians seemed to have conquered the playing field. Singapore, for all our improvement over the past five years in our music industry, could only be contented with two nominations in the regional categories: Taufik Batisah & Hady Mirza‘s effort (KepadaNYA) and Nana‘s “Lafaz” flying our flag. I thought that with the postponement of Anugerah Hitz.Sg, we would at least see the “smaller” categories like Artis Singapura Terbaik (Best Singapore Artiste) and Album Singapura Terbaik (Best Singapore Album) being retained but of course, only the powers that be, know better as to why these awards were dropped. My observations say that this is its 9th year and it’s high time our artistes stand head and shoulders together with their regional counterparts rather than have separate awards which are given out during breaks in transmission, as was the case in previous editions, which of course did not go down well with the majority of Singaporeans, me included. To their credit, at least the Lagu Singapura Paling Popular Category (Most Popular Singapore Song) is still around. But it remains a mystery if the award is to be given out during the transmission breaks or live.

I also noted the various changes in the popular categories where at least one has significantly been made unavailable and the rest having name changes. In the past, we had categories like Artis Lelaki Paling Popular (Most Popular Male Artiste), Artis Wanita Paling Popular (Most Popular Female Artiste) and Artis Duo / Kumpulan Paling Popular (Most Popular Duo / Group) just to name a few, but this time round, they changed the categories based on countries. The Artis Serantau Paling Popular (Most Popular Regional Artiste) category is also new this year, with the Lagu Paling Popular (Most Popular Song) category being dissolved for this year’s event. Oh and news is that Aznil Haji Nawawi will be the host of the event. Am not sure if he will be doing it solo or they would retain the three or more hosts format which is synonymous to the event. If he’s alone this time, it would cap another first for the event.

So there you have it, the whole list in its glory, which is still subjected to changes as I wait for the official website of APM 2009 to be updated and I will then correct it as and when needed. For the first time in the history of Anugerah Planet Muzik, I will not be attending the event as the date clashes with Manchester United‘s Asian Tour 2009, where they will be in Kuala Lumpur on that day playing against a select Malaysian team at Bukit Jalil Stadium. I have already bought tickets to the game and booked the hotel and being me, I will not swap the opportunity to watch my beloved team in action live in the flesh. Looks like there will be no lengthy updates nor reviews with regards to Anugerah Planet Muzik this year. For that I have to apologise for not being able to cover this event for your reading pleasure.

  1. Funny anugerah hitz was cancelled due to economic downturn reasons.. but maybe this event (hope i’m right) is a share-the-cost-of-production.. maybe the huge number of indonesians’ nominations is because of the venue (or something else).. lol.. or maybe more indonesians have paid $20 to be nominated (and then to be acknowledged for their contributions)..

    tsk.. how ironic..

anyway.. am very glad there is a change in venue.. kudos to the organisers!

    thanx for the update, bro..

  2. what do you mean by Indonesians have paid to be nominated Dyan? DUH! You’re so ignorant git. They don’t have to pay to be on the nomination. As the matter of fact, their artists/singers and songs are ruling in the region for years. That’s why APM has never been held in Indonesia before because they could sweep all the awards especially the voting ones. Wake up!

    1. Bro Frank. Meaning, only us Singaporeans need to pay the admin fee to be nominated? Wow! You telling me to wake up? lol. Do your research, bro.

      1. I think what Frank said was that the huge number of indonesians’ nominations is not because of they paid more for nomination fees. I heard the committee of APM received around 400 songs from Indonesian artists this year because it’s the fact that Indonesia produces more good songs compare with Malaysia and Singapore. However, the APM committee picked only the best to be on the nomination list.
Btw, Indonesia still CANNOT vote until now while the line voting in Singapore and Malaysia have been opened since June 18. So Indonesia will only depend on the “Best” categories as usual.

      2. Mariam … i have no doubts that Indonesia has a wider pool of talents.. but i have my doubts.. are Singaporean artists the only ones required to pay for nominations?

  3. Oh and another thing: APM is NOT popular in Indonesia. Why do they want to pay for the unpopular award while they have their own prestigious ones (plus their artists became the nominees in other countries too)?

  4. I sincierly hope that APM this year will not be a flop compared to the previous one. I just want to have that hope that it will be better or up to par with M’sia AIM. The vast difference in the quality and response by the regional artiste show the credibility and the ‘seriousness’ the entertainment market perceives APM to be.

Maybe its time to have a change, but lets play it a level above guys! I think that the Singapore Entertainment scene & market should be up to par with Indonesia & Malaysia. It just doesn’t make sense on why there is a huge difference of ‘quality’ of our artiste and productions which are produced locally compared to abroad.

I seriously think that more quality control should be considered in future APM’s. How can an Artiste who have released just ONE (1) SINGLE receive a nomination? I feel that the requirements should be more stern and more fair towards artistes who have invested more time in their albums & EPs and who are waaaay talented.

Please MR/MISS/MDM Organiser, be fair. I think that APM should’nt be THAT AWARD YANG ARTIST TEMPATAN laugh about. There’s still alot of other things that should be taken into consideration.

    1. I guess so. I repeat: Indonesia still CANNOT vote until now while the line voting in Singapore and Malaysia have been opened since June 18. So Indonesia will only depend on the “Best” categories as usual.

  5. For your info we in indonesia don’t know how to vote in apm because apm is not popular in indo.and if malaysia or singapore artist is won we realy disapointed coz ur artist is not popular here except siti, raihan, hady mirza n too phat(we only now ur artist in the list)

  7. i think that APM is one of the lousiest award that has been existed in these region…….i just don’t get it,that why,the singaporean categories are still existed, since there is a lil chance 4 them to win such other award……….but then, the nominations show that there is biased especially on several categories….such as best song…….
i’ve listen all the nominated songs, but still there are not the actual quality of best songz………for example, matahariku by agnes monica, the music is quite hardly understandable and the lyrics are nothing….same as other songs that are also nominated……

    in my opinion,

i think that malaysian music are more interesting compared to other countries as we are up to date………music is about a good collaboration between sounds and lyrics…..pagi yang gelap is not the best song in malaysia, compared to other,i preferably chose Cinta Adam & Hawa(Misha Omar),Lagu Kita(Aizat),Sampai Syurga(Faizal Tahir) as the best songz in Malaysia so far since this article is published…….

well, for the better sake of the music industry,i would like 2 suggest that next APM 2010,there should be no more lousiest nominations and categories as we should be professional in all things, regardless where we come from………..

    1. whoa! IMO Agnes Monica’s song Matahariku is the best song among the other nominated songs! It’s a powerful song and lyric!

  8. vote for dato siti nurhaliza……….. dato siti u ur the best singer in the world… n all the best to all the malaysia arties…..

  9. I think you guys are talking about subjective matters here…Come on! You see, music is unversal.

Sedangkan beliau, seorang komposer dan musisi yang tersohor berkata demikian, what right have we got to say that one music is better than the other.

Setiap negara punya keistimewaan masing-masing. Jangan komen ketika nafsu sedang melonjak!

  10. i hope malaysian artist will be win all the nominations!!!Hope will bolot all d anugerAH!!!
    hidup mUSic malAysia!!!
so,doNT 4 forget tO VOTE!!!n VOte our artist…especiaLLY my siTI NurhaliZA beb!!!
    see yaa!!!

  11. Seriously, I’ve just seen 2 performers from Malaysia and they just sucked! The man looked weird, the song sounded weird, his outfit was even gross! The second performer was like Agnes Monica wannabe/copycat of Agnes Monica in Inul Daratista outfit!

  13. oh c’mon peepz its music we’re talking bwt. it doesnt matter if its indonesian/malaysian/singaporean. music is an universal language. so just give our support. no need to fight. oh yeah and also in indonesia, we never underestimate or reject malaysian/singaporean artists. we accept them so we hope u guys do the same to our artists. so its kinda silly if u guys think the opposite. and also for us here, we only listen to music that we lyk. its really all bwt the music, not the origin of the artists who carry the music. so theres only one key to be heard here and that is to show ur creativity and originality. thats all. we dont rlly care bwt genre. we luv all kind of music. thx.
    peace yo 😉

    1. Saya setuju sekali sama kamu. However, Indonesia still got 9 awards. Congrats ^_^

  15. i enjoyed most of the performers in APM except Reshmonu…sorry for saying this but he was weird… :o:

Indonesia swept almost all Best categories.!!haha.yes!!!all malaysian jealous!!!as usual!!

bnyk aris indon yg menang… mmg ptt pun krna kualiti musik indo lbh ummph & hebat…

    audien indon Best!!!!layan!!! 🙂

  16. Artis2 Indonesia n Singapore bagus-bagus. I like Singapore Idols performance Hady Mirza and Taufik Batisah! ^_^ Hady also has a fanbase in Indonesia.

  17. Aku macam lambat komen gitu eh?

I think majority of the comments here very the tak membangunkan dan pro nation. Its good being a loyal fan to one’s homegrown heroes but that does not mean other countries are not better off…

I agree APM is not representing itself at its best and a lot more can be done to improve if the SGD$20 nomination thing is eliminated. Not sure if it applies only to SG artists but if it does, orang2 kuat dalam SG scene kena bersuara beb.

Alah menang kalah pon apa beza dia? Best sana, No 1 sini… dulu aku main capteh kat kampong aku semua sorak pasal akulah terra. Aku pi kampong sebelah semua boo walaupon aku tetap terra rossa! Biasalah… mak mana cakap anak dia bodoh kan?
